Tin Top Titles 2008 Report
Monday, 21 April 2008 02:15
The two day meeting that is the Tin Top Titles - named for its featured sedan based drag cars - got underway under threatening skies on Friday the 18th of April 2008 at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland.
Two bike brackets were run, Competition Bike and Modified Bike.
Modified Bike
Modified Bike only managed to get two qualifying runs in, before the delayed schedule due to constant shower breaks took its toll. After the two runs, Mark Wackers V-Rod came out at the top with a 9.296, followed by Ian Boswood's almost there 9.297. Boswood didnt advance past the first round, but Wacker did, along with Keath Mearns, who took his ZX12R Kawasaki to the semi finals for a solo into the money run.
Mark Wacker faced Jason Hammelswangs yellow R1 Yamaha streeter in the semis, which was decided by a pair of red lights, Hammelswangs unlucky .399 not the worse, but the first, in front of Wackers .392
Finals time and a .429 light and a .32 over 9.75 from Keith Mearns earned him the win over Mark Wacker.
Competition Bike
Comp Bike qualifying finished with Dave Rundmanns B/SB Suzuki number one, after an under the record 9.33 effort. The first round of Comp Bike was messy affair, Craig Hartmans bike broke a cam chain in the water to advance an off pace Geoff Redgrave, and Jeff Burnett redlighted away a potential first round win over a kangeroo hopping launch from Godeassi, the Pro bike slowing to a 16 second pass.
Blair Penningtons B/SB GSXR wouldnt fire for his run against Rundmann, who then soloed through for an index damaging 9.53 while Peter Everetts A/SB 8.96 easily accounted for Kelvin Brittains B/CB 8.32.
Everett and Rundmann were victorious in the semi finals, setting up an all Street Bike final which was run at 12.52 am after the delays had taken their toll. Dave Rundmann's .011 under the index 9.57 was a winner, holding off a slightly slower reacting Everett, his .13 under 8.95 earning him the runner up spot, and the track championship.
